Instructions to make Beef Shigureni:
  1. Thinly slice Beef. *Note: You can cut into small cubes.
  2. Place all other ingredients in a sauce pan, and bring it to the boil.
  3. When it started boiling, add Beef and cook until sauce is gone. *Note: Keep stirring as it is easy to burn when the sauce starts thickening.

There are two different flavourings for Braised Beef & Burdock with Ginger (Shigureni). Beef and Gobo Shigureni is a savory stir fry with prominent flavors of beef, soy, ginger and of course earthy gobo! The Japanese dish called beef shigureni inspired this recipe. Thinly sliced beef is simmered with a good dose of soy sauce for an intense savoriness meant to be tempered with rice. Beef Shigureni is seasoned strongly with soy sauce, sugar, and ginger, and goes very well with rice, therefore, it is perfect as an Onigiri filling!
